POSITION SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Police Captain and the Chief of Police/Associate Vice President of Security Services, the Police Lieutenant is responsible for protecting patients, visitors, employees, and hospital property. The Police Lieutenant is responsible for supervision of police department personnel and security personnel in the absence of the security supervision. The ProMedica Police Lieutenant will perform patrols either on foot, vehicle, or other means on ProMedica owned properties where agreed upon with the partnering municipality. The ProMedica Police Lieutenant works to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment, working in partnership with clinical staff, The ProMedica Police Lieutenant will enforce criminal and traffic laws, parking violations, engage in crime prevention initiatives, apprehend criminals and answer calls for service or safety issues. Duties will be performed in compliance with agency directives, standard operating procedures, and special orders or as otherwise directed by supervision. The ProMedica Police Lieutenant will be primarily tasked with managing shift operations and direct patrolling duties. When the Police Captain is out (ETO, etc.) the Lieutenant will manage the day-to-day administrative and operational duties. ACCOUNTABILITIESPatrols assigned areas. Provides law enforcement services for assigned ProMedica properties, employees, patients, and visitors by patrolling assigned areas covered by mutual agreement and taking action when necessary. Monitoring conduct of visitors on ProMedica property; questioning suspicious individuals when necessary. Schedules, supervises, trains, counsels, and disciplines personnel enforces adherence to division policies; reviews reports prepared by personnel; supervises and manages training; evaluates performance and provides daily feedback of subordinates; manages career development of personnel. Investigates and reports all accidents, safety/fire hazards and incidents involving loss, theft, damage, injury and recovered property. Prepares appropriate reports to document these incidents. Offers care and assistance to visitors, guests, employees, and patients. Must always promote customer service and satisfaction, treating all people in courteous and professional manner. Appears in court to testify. Enforces parking regulations and assist with traffic and pedestrian traffic on ProMedica. Enforces the law at a level that is consistent with organizational expectations, arresting individuals that are in violation of the law on identified ProMedica properties. Works in partnership with the ProMedica community to create a safe environment for all. Works closely with other departments, law enforcement agencies, social service agencies and other community organizations. Assists in the preparation of goals and objectives and subsequent updates; assists in department budget preparation and monitoring. Performs other duties as assigned. Job RequirementsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School Diploma or EquivalentSkills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Must be able to write reports that reflect professionalism and use appropriate grammar and spelling. Display high level of initiative, effort, and commitment toward completing tasks in a timely manner. Ability to work with minimal supervision .Organization, planning skills, high attention to detail, and follow-through. Must deal effectively with a variety or patients, staff, customers, and visitors, sometimes under potentially stressful situations. Must have the ability to work with diverse populations and possess exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries while demonstrating effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills in a high-stress environment. Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials. Must possess and maintain physical fitness at a level identified by the agency to provide for effective performance of the job. Must remain current in any certifications and knowledgeable in infection control and hazardous material measures. Must remain current with all other in-services required by JCAHO, the ProMedica Police Department and OPOTA. License: Requires a valid driver's license and a clean driving record, as demonstrated by a MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) in order to be covered under the Company's insurance policy. Certification: BLS, Ohio Peace Officers Basic Training Certification. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Associate's degree or (2) years of college. Years of Experience: Previous exemplary law enforcement experience preferred. Previous experience effectively supervising people in a fast-paced environment. Certification: Training in Hospital Incident Command Systems (HICS) IS-100.Hcb, IS-200.HCa, IS-700a. IS-800.b, is required within one year of hire. International Healthcare Safety and Security Basic Training and testing must be completed within 6 months of hire. International Healthcare Safety and Security Advanced and Supervisor Training and Certification must be successfully completed within one year of hire. WORKING CONDITIONSPhysical Demands: Work is performed within a hospital environment. While most work is performed within the facility the successful applicant may work outdoors in all weather conditions. Incumbent works without direct supervision and spends the majority of his/her time interacting with patients, visitors, and staff. Nights and weekend work is common.
