Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the coordination, planning, implementation of care
for the outpatient infusion patients. Provide leadership support
for all departments and serves as a communication link between
department leadership and all employees and physicians. As a leader
and role model demonstrates behavior that supports management and
administration in the achievement of goals and objectives set by
the organizational strategic plan while providing exceptional
internal and external customer service.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
Oversees staffing, orientation, and day-to-day operations; Assists
in the orientation and training of new employees, completes
performance evaluations in coordination with unit manager and makes
recommendations to immediate supervisor regarding need for coaching
subordinates, ensures that supplies and equipment are in good
working order and available in the department, and provides in-
servicing of new equipment in conjunction with nursing manager and
nursing education. - - - -
Manages and oversees staffing schedule/needs and payroll
activities, maintains appropriate staffing with a fair and
consistent allocation of department resources based on patient
census and staffing grid, approves overtime and paid meal periods
for shifts, coordinates work flow to allow breaks and lunches,
assigns daily staffing duties, making adjustments as necessary, and
communicates changes and status with unit manager and/or nursing
supervisor. - - - - - - - - - -
Demonstrates competence in managing unit in the absence of the Unit
Manager or Director and demonstrates decision-making abilities
consistent with PHS code of conduct and hospital goals and
objectives, supports management and administration in the
achievement of goals and objectives set by the organizational
strategic plan by actively creating a positive atmosphere of
commitment, assists in the development and implementation of new
unit policies, procedures, standards and objectives and interprets
and ensures adherence to departmental and hospital-wide
policies.
Demonstrates and promotes teamwork within the unit as well as
throughout the organization; supports peers in their achievements
and improvement endeavors, serves as a resource and leader for
personnel in resolving patient care problems, both clinical and
non-clinical, and is integral in the development, coaching,
teaching and counseling of staff, demonstrates leader rounding on
patients, staff, and physicians daily to promote patient focused
care delivery and enhance patient experience.
Demonstrates decision-making abilities consistent with PMRH code of
conduct and hospital goals and objectives.
Provides excellent patient care, accurately documents care given
with concise, pertinent patient information including nursing
intervention and patient and patient response. - Meets, exceeds and
maintains the clinical requirements of the department staff
registered nurse and is able to work in all areas as needed. -
Maintains current knowledge and clinical expertise through ongoing
involvement in professional activities such as hospital in-service
programs, seminars, lectures, and continuing education. - Assumes
personal responsibility for professional development and takes
opportunity to increase leadership skills.
Assists with performance improvement activities. - Assumes active
role in Performance Improvement activities, JCAHO accreditation,
meeting HCHAPS goals, and standards of care. - Attends meetings and
serves on committees as directed. - Maintains unit performance
records and compiles statistics including hours of care and
overtime or as directed by Manager. - Attends 80% of unit and
nursing administration meetings as required, and may conduct unit
meetings in the absence of Department Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and
possess a registered nurse license in the State of Ohio.
Skills: Must have oncology or chemotherapy infusion experience.
Basic computer skills such as hospital patient care systems, word,
excel or the ability to learn such. - Must possess leadership
skills including demonstrated willingness to pursue and perform
leadership roles with increasing levels of accountability, comfort
with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, teaching and
counseling skills, and the ability to inspire and build confidence
in others and to forge alliances and garner support. - Must have
Clinical expertise, theoretical knowledge and analytical abilities
necessary to perform principle duties and responsibilities. -
Utilizes creative thinking, is self-directed and utilizes
problem-solving and decision-making abilities and skills.
Years of Experience: Must have at least 2 years nursing experience,
preferably medical/surgical nursing, which should include
demonstrated management ability. 6 months to 1 year on chemotherapy
experience.
License: OH nursing license
Certification: BLS, ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
Experience with Ports, central lines, ultrasound IV access,
assessing and managing side effects, critical thinking for emergent
anaphylactic reactions and ability to learn new procedures.
Must have interpersonal skills to deal calmly and effectively with
multiple activities involved in the operation of the unit. -
Attends education in-services in leadership, management, and
clinical updates. - Effectively communicates and interacts with
patients of the following ages as appropriate; neonate (birth to 1
month), infant (1 month to 1 year), pediatric (1 to 12 years,
adolescent (12 to 17 years), adult (18 to 64 years), and geriatric
(64 years and above), patients' families, physicians, staff and
other contacted in the function of charge nurse.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: N-95, CAPR, PAPR, chemotherapy
PPE
Physical Demands: Must have the physical ability to freely move; to
move about the nursing floor for extended periods; and assist in
lifting, positioning, and transporting patients. - As an essential
job function, due to continuously changing patient census/activity
and staffing needs, must have the flexibility to work a varying
schedule should the need arise, which may require working overtime
(greater than 40 worked hours per week) and/or shift durations that
exceed the assigned status for shift length and/or hours per
week.
