DescriptionPosition Summary:The Unit Coordinator is an unlicensed worker who at the discretion of the Director may be cross-trained as a PCT. (Please refer to the PCT job description when performing those duties.) The Unit Coordinator provides clinical and clerical support to the patient and our units under the direct supervision of the RN. They assist in the maintenance of a responsive communication system through positive interactions with our patients, guests, ancillary departments, Physicians and their peers. The Unit Coordinator is responsible for the accurate transcription of Physician Orders and assisting the units in the planning, organization and implementation of measures to maintain a quality therapeutic environment for our units and ultimately, our patients. What You Will Do:

  • Will follow the dress code and maintain a professional appearance in all areas including appearance, verbal and non-verbal communication. Will use proper phone etiquette when performing reception duties at the Nursing Station desk.
  • Participates in department performance improvement activities as assigned. Will maintain current in keeping self-informed and participate in all pertinent Core Measure/SCIP/HFAPS/Accrediting initiatives and activities. The Unit Coordinator may be assigned to collect data, report information and/or perform interventions for the purpose of improving a variety of quality issues or may be assigned other job duties as deemed appropriate by their Director or the RN.
  • Performs clerical duties which include transcription of physician orders. This may include scheduling diagnostic procedures/tests/appointments, effectively communicating and co-coordinating orders with Physicians, Charge Nurses, direct care givers, ancillary departments, other facilities, etc. as necessary to assist the Medical Center to continue to efficiently and effectively meet our patients healthcare needs. May perform other patient care activities as trained and directed by the RN. Answer call lights timely and notifies appropriate personnel of patients needs immediately if unqualified to meet those needs themselves. Recognizes significant changes in patients condition and takes appropriate action and notifies RN.
  • Utilizes nursing practice standards and evidence-based practices. Collects patient information/data and assists the RN in planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients care as delegated.
  • Communicates pertinent information to the Charge Nurse or RN designee.
  • Enters charges for procedures, supplies, equipment as applicable.
  • Assists in the training of new employees under the direction of the Director. Consistently demonstrates ability to use the hospital related computer programs, copier, fax, and printer accurately.
  • Maintains the unit and equipment. Orders supplies for the unit as needed which may include, food, paper products, office supplies or medical supplies.
  • Maintains positive professional communication skills and guest relations at all times. Must be flexible, maintaining adaptability and be a team player in all areas. ACE (positive Attitude, Commitment to be the best you can for our patients and to Firelands and Enthusiasm for Firelands and our guests) must always be adhered to. Problems or concerns must be reported to the appropriate person or department and Unit Coordinator will assist in the resolution whenever possible. Strives to assist the unit to meet established goals for our Patient Satisfaction thru building and maintaining positive relationships with all and maintaining ACE. What You Will Need:
    • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Prefer Medical Assistant, Unit Coordinator Associate or STNA with experience. Previous hospital and clerical experience with excellent computer skills is preferred with at least 1-year experience in pertinent clinical area. Medical Terminology course is preferred.
    • Must successfully complete all essential requirements for position, including a ninety (90) day probationary period, unit specific competencies, annual educational programs, CPR, Fit Testing, TB test, Computer Class, etc. (CPR/BLS Health Care Provider is required within 30 days of employment if not previously obtained.) Must attend staff meetings as directed by the Director, sign all minutes of meetings not attended, sign accountability for all posted updates such as new policies and procedures and will attend all pertinent training sessions.
    • Required to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of emergency codes. Complies with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution, recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment.
