General Summary:

Assists with the plant documentation systems, which includes but not limited to the control of quality systems documents and programs (policies, procedures, work instructions, food safety & quality recordkeeping) and formulas (Optiva, SAP and floor formulas).  Assists with coordinating the plant internal audit/inspection and corrective/preventive action programs.   Assist with commercialization process for new products from special batch phase through initial production, involved with scaling of ingredients.  Assists with overseeing ingredient, packaging and finished product traceability and mock recall programs.   Coordinates product showings, physical, chemical, & analytical testing of ingredients, process and finished products, includes shelf-life verification. Assists with reviewing Food Safety & Quality data and provides input as required.  Assists with investigates plant nonconforming product incidents and consumer complaints, conducting root cause analysis and leading corrective action efforts.   Assists with coordinating HACCP and food quality risk assessments, audits and scheduled reviews.   Review of on-line quality tools, data and applications for plant data collection systems.  Lead in-plant project(s) to reduce consumer complaints or other quality issues.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • 30% Reviews and audits documentation critical to compliance for quality systems, SQF, FSMA, and formulations.  Raises awareness of identified gaps and/or initiates appropriate corrective actions.   

  • 20% Assist with data input, analysis, trending and reporting through excel and SAP (NonConformances, Holds, Expiry Reports, etc.)

  • 20% Support Environmental Monitoring Program and annual validations

  • 15% Continuous Improvement: Participate on project(s) to reduce consumer complaints or other quality issues.

  • 15% Perform physical, analytical, chemical and microbiological testing of ingredients, process and finished product.

Job Specifications:

  • Minimum education preferred:  Associates Degree in Science, Business, or Quality

  • Years of relevant experience: 1-3 yrs in a CPG company

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Experience in the food industry plant environment with an understanding of manufacturing processes

  • Practical knowledge and application of food safety principles (ex. Regulatory FSMA, HACCP, GMPs, AIB, food microbiology)

  • Practical knowledge and application of quality systems

  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Effective abilities in organizing and deductive thinking

  • Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office software, able to master other software

  • Knowledge of SAP preferred

  • Proficient knowledge of SPC

  • Able to communicate at any organizational level

Work Environment:

  • The Candidate is expected to comply with all safety regulations, support plant safety initiatives, and wear proper PPE as required.
  • Ability to work off shifts when required.
