– 16:00) Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The Clinical
Dietitian is responsible for providing comprehensive nutrition care
to patients in a hospital setting. This role involves evaluating,
assessing, and developing individualized nutrition care plans for
high-risk patients while collaborating with interdisciplinary
healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The dietitian
must be able to work independently and efficiently in a clinical
environment. Key responsibilities include conducting nutrition
assessments and consultations for high-risk patients, including
those receiving enteral and parenteral nutrition. The dietitian
will review and analyze factors such as drug-food interactions,
electrolyte and laboratory values, diet orders, anthropometric
measurements, appetite, physical assessments, nutrition history,
medications, and medical history. Based on this evaluation, the
dietitian calculates calorie, protein, and fluid requirements
considering the patient's age, gender, medical condition, activity
level, and medical nutrition therapy goals. They will identify
nutrition-related problems, develop care plans and nutrition goals,
and document findings and recommendations in the medical record
while coordinating with appropriate healthcare team members. The
role also includes providing nutrition education and counseling to
both inpatient and outpatient populations on therapeutic diets.
Education considers patient-specific factors such as learning
ability, age, cultural or religious needs, lifestyle, economic
considerations, and drug-food interactions. The dietitian evaluates
the effectiveness of counseling, documents patient progress toward
nutrition goals, and coordinates follow-up care or communication
with outside agencies when necessary. Nutrition education materials
may also be reviewed and updated as needed. The dietitian will also
provide services to patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
receiving outpatient dialysis, including initial nutrition
evaluations, ongoing assessments, care planning, monthly
follow-ups, and participation in care conferences. Additional
responsibilities include developing therapeutic diets and menus
according to the approved diet manual, evaluating diet
prescriptions relative to diagnoses, and recommending modifications
when appropriate. The dietitian serves as a resource for Food &
Nutrition Services staff and registered dietetic technicians. The
role includes mentoring and supporting medical students, dietetic
students, interns, allied health trainees, and hospital staff, as
well as delivering lectures, in-service training, and educational
sessions. Participation in committees and interdisciplinary
activities may also be required. The dietitian may also place or
modify Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) orders in the electronic
medical record within the scope of practice, including diet orders,
oral nutritional supplements, and enteral nutrition adjustments.
