competency in caring for patients across all stages of the life
cycle Description: Performs scrub duties during surgical procedures
under direct supervision of the physician and the circulating
registered nurse. Performs other functions as directed to assist in
departmental operations. Demonstrates clinical competency in caring
for patients as identified in the unit's scope of care. Assists the
surgeon as scrub personnel according to established standards.
Scrubs, gowns, and gloves in accordance with established policy.
Sets up table, instruments, and supplies relevant to the operation.
Assists in preparation and draping of patients as needed.
Anticipates the needs of surgeons in instruments, sutures, sponges,
and supplies. Observes the patient and is prepared for emergencies.
Maintains a correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments with
the circulating nurse. Maintains aseptic technique at all times as
directed by established policy. Assists in the care and handling of
specimens and cultures as directed by established policy. Assists
in the application of dressing and casts, and in moving patients as
directed. Demonstrates competency in the care of the patient in all
stages of the life cycle: infants, children, adolescents, adults,
