Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of patient's problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates, provides and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.
Summary:
Manages and coordinates the necessary resource to provide safe and efficient patient care within a surgical specialty. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to maintain open communication within a multidisciplinary team. Assists in the provision of care to patients of all age groups.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing, BSN.
  
  
• 
  Possess current license as a registered nurse from the State of Ohio.
  
  
• 
  Must possess analytical ability to coordinate and manage an area within Surgical Services.
  
  
• 
  Work requires level knowledge of surgical procedures and methods generally acquired through five years as s Surgical Services nurse with concurrent clinical experience in surgical area.
  
  
• 
  Required to obtain and maintain certification in specialty area if available (CNOR, ASPAN).
  
  
• 
  Provides care to patients of all ages.

    Leadership Responsibility:
    Leader of staff RNs and CSTs assigned to specialty team generally between 5-20 individuals
    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
    
    • 
      
    • 
      Manage the human resources necessary to maintain the services of a surgical area team. This includes participation in hiring, scheduling, evaluating, and disciplining.
      
      
    • 
      Coordinates supplies and equipment for the surgical area
      
      
    • 
      Maintains clinical competency and serves as a primary clinical resource within surgical area.
      
      
    • 
      Consults regularly with the medical staff of Surgical Services for input and evaluation of overall service
      
      
    • 
      Utilizes interpersonal skills to maintain open communication within the multidisciplinary team.
      
      
    • 
      Assumes the role of departmental charge in the absence of the unit director when requested
      
      
    •

      Interprets information need to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific need: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric

      Participates in and encourages associates to participate in activities that benefit the community
      
      
    • 
      Identifies and supports evidence-based practice and nursing research opportunities and activities.
      
      
    • 
      Is Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
