Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of patient's problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates, provides and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.
Summary:
Manages and coordinates the necessary resource to provide safe and efficient patient care within a surgical specialty. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to maintain open communication within a multidisciplinary team. Assists in the provision of care to patients of all age groups.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing, BSN.


  • Possess current license as a registered nurse from the State of Ohio.


  • Must possess analytical ability to coordinate and manage an area within Surgical Services.


  • Work requires level knowledge of surgical procedures and methods generally acquired through five years as s Surgical Services nurse with concurrent clinical experience in surgical area.


  • Required to obtain and maintain certification in specialty area if available (CNOR, ASPAN).


  • Provides care to patients of all ages.


    Working Conditions:


    • Works in a normal patient care environment where there is exposure to communicable disease


    • Wok requires standing and walking for prolonged period along with lifting, turning, or positioning patients.


    • Potential for exposure to injury due to combative or abusive patients


    • Potential for exposure to hazardous materials


    • Work often involves stress frequently found in a surgical environment


      Leadership Responsibility:
      Leader of staff RNs and CSTs assigned to specialty team generally between 5-20 individuals
      Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


      • Manage the human resources necessary to maintain the services of a surgical area team. This includes participation in hiring, scheduling, evaluating, and disciplining.


      • Coordinates supplies and equipment for the surgical area


      • Maintains clinical competency and serves as a primary clinical resource within surgical area.


      • Consults regularly with the medical staff of Surgical Services for input and evaluation of overall service


      • Utilizes interpersonal skills to maintain open communication within the multidisciplinary team.


      • Assumes the role of departmental charge in the absence of the unit director when requested


      • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Mission and Core Values (Compassion, Excellence, Human Dignity, Justice, Sacredness of Life, Service) of Mercy Health Partners.


      • Embraces Standards of Behavior in order to provide and promote excellent customer service for both internal and external customers. Holds self and others accountable for behaviors that promote service ad excellence.

      • Provides service to all age groups. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.


      • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span by completing continuing education program.


      • Interprets information need to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific need: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric


      • Participates in and encourages associates to participate in activities that benefit the community


      • Identifies and supports evidence-based practice and nursing research opportunities and activities.


      • Is Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
