**Thank you for considering a career at Mercy Health****General Summary:**Schedules all perioperative procedures according to established policies and procedures. Performs data entry, filing, recordkeeping and clerical duties. Assists in the provision of care to patients of all age groups.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities:**1. Requires a high school diploma or GED (required) Associates degree (preferred)2. Successful completion of a medical terminology course (required)3. Ability to type 30 words per minute4. must be computer literate and have knowledge of use and operation of standard office equipment5. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills and handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires tact and diplomacy in dealing with physicians and medical center personnel.6. A high level of analytical ability is required to resolve scheduling problems7. organizational and multi-tasking skills required with the ability to prioritize work to meet continuously changing deadlines8. a thorough knowledge of departmental policies and procedures is required9. Must possess a basic understanding of hospital departments and their inter relationship with surgery**Principal Duties and Responsibilities:**1. Demonstrates and maintains communication and collaborative skills with the multidisciplinary health care team2. Schedules all perioperative procedures according to the surgery scheduling guidelines. Determine all pertinent information and resources required to perform the surgical case. Contacts ancillary departments, sales representatives or other resources requisite to the scheduled case.3. Ensures on a daily basis that there are no conflicts relating to the availability of resources for the next day's schedule4. Refers all scheduling conflicts, issues and procedural questions to the appropriate manager or designee.5. Maintains surgeon privilege books, surgeon profile, proctor file and surgeon block schedule6. Performs general clerical and secretarial duties7. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unitDemonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span by completing continuing educationInterprets information need to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needsa.
