Job Description:

Position Summary: -- Responsible for performing testing under the review of a Medical Technologist or Department Supervisor which requires limited judgment. May evaluate test results and exercise some initiative in determining additional or follow-up tests. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance, and safety. -- Essential Functions: -- Performs clinical laboratory testing a. Competently performs testing requiring limited judgment for review by a Medical Technologist or Department Supervisor. b. Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results. c. Operates test systems proficiently. d. Troubleshoots test systems and takes appropriate action where indicated. -- 2. Ensures quality of laboratory services a. Follows established policies and procedures for quality control performance and documentation. b. Identifies problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and takes appropriate action, including supervisor notification if indicated. c. Understands and follows all safety, infection control, and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen guidelines. d. Participates in departmental quality assurance programs. e. Participates in the laboratory's in-service education program. -- 3. Utilizes departmental resources in an efficient manner a. Demonstrates efficiency by performing procedures rapidly and determining priority.
