Job Description:
SUMMARY:The GIC Lab Chemist/Engineer will play a vital role in
the TekniPlex's product innovation effort. The position involves
working with product managers, lab managers, and customers to
design and develop new material testing procedures and data
analysis processes, conduct analytical and product performance
testing, interpret test data and results, and communicate
effectively on assigned projects. This position also has the
opportunity to lead certain exploratory development projects
assigned by the Director of Global Innovation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
- Adapt industry specific compounding, extrusion, and testing
knowledge as directed by the NPD Manager.
- Work with the commercial team and production personnel to
develop, continuously improve, or customize existing products,
formulas, and processes
- Work with manufacturing to reduce cost, optimize processability
and improve performance of materials
- Assists in the design and development of tubing and compounds
for various applications and products.
- Compound and extruded experimental materials using lab scale
internal equipment.
- Conduct lab sample testing
- Plans and conducts development production tests/trials in
coordination with production and planning.
- Analyze and rationalize designed lab experiments and maintain
records
- Assist in development and testing of experimental products
- Work in coordination with other divisions in development
material solutions
- Work with the Quality Assurance Manager to address quality
control issues
- Maintain various databases - production formulae and mixing
procedures; chemicals and raw materials;
- Maintain safety protocol for laboratory processes and SDS for
raw materials.QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an
individual must be able to perform each essential duty

EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree or Associate Degree in Chemical,
Chemistry, Polymer of related engineering discipline; or eight
years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination
of education and experience.LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read,
analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional
journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure
manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the
general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to apply advanced
mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic
equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical
operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination
of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation
techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. REASONING
ABILITY:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts,
and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive
variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. TECHNICAL
SKILLS/TRAINING:Test method, ISO, GMP, DOE, and FMEA experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are

required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand;
walk; use hands to finger; talk and hear. The employee must
frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift
and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by
this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes
or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work
environment is usually moderate. Will be required to travel via car
and air occasionally.
